Forming A Sleeping Pattern For Your Baby

Putting a baby to sleep was made possible by Pavlov’s dogs. If you have heard of Ivan Pavlov and his dogs experiment then you know and appreciate the conditioning benefits. The dog’s were taught that when the bell rang it was a cue to eat. The dogs overtime got used to timetable and associated a bell ring with food. Easy, right? Each time the bell rang the dogs would go to the place they were served with food as they knew it was eating time. But, in this article the talk is not about dog rather babies.

The concept could be the same though here we know that the baby is not a dog but perhaps you should condition him similarly. Pick your baby’s sleeping cues by following your baby’s routine.

This will be good to help your baby in sleeping as you will know the sleep time and the behavior traits done when it’s time to sleep.

The concept is great right? It may sound easy to read but it is not. There are some components which should be captured for it to work.

First you must have a schedule for the baby everyday. The reason behind this is that a schedule leads to consistency which to predictability. If the schedule is followed constantly on a daily basis you will know what to expect and also what follows after that and be able to know the sleep cue.

There are times when you feel you would like you should help the baby settle and other times you feel like letting her sleep on her own.

There are times when you have to sway the baby and this should be consistent and gentle.

Swaying rhythms helps a baby to go to sleep. The swaying if needed should be gentle for the baby’s relaxation because if it is done fast the baby will think it’s a cue to play.

Lastly, if you don’t have your own schedule it is time to implement them. One good cue is time for taking a bath. The child will know that soon after bathing , there will be a few other activities all centered around sleep and so at the time you will say it is bed time everybody should just go to bed.

To conclude, babies start their lives in the womb, and they more accustomed to it. It is unlikely to come into the world with a lot of vigor as it can cause an insecurity feeling by the baby. A baby should be assisted to shift from womb to the world smoothly as this will ensure they sleep better.
